Did you know that recreation is one of the 8 dimensions of intimacy?

True intimacy is about being known, seen, safe, and celebrated in EVERY part of your relationship.

So what’s recreational intimacy? It’s spending time with your spouse through shared activities.

For some couples, this comes naturally—perhaps they met rock climbing or making music together. For others, it may barely exist, especially if your interests are very different.

But it matters. Couples who play together tend to feel closer. Play reduces stress, strengthens connection, and builds resilience.

Try this: Create a “Couple Adventure Jar” together. Fill it with activities you’d like to try as a couple (set a budget if needed). Then, once a month, take turns drawing one.

Be open, have fun—and don’t forget to refill the jar!
